Advice to the Younger Generations of Doctors and Other Professionals

Dr. P K Sasidharan

I am not certain if it is appropriate for me to offer advice these days, but for those who know me and my intentions, I hope they may find these words helpful. If anyone considers this inappropriate, please feel free to disregard it.
If there is someone who excels in your home, group, department, or workplace—whether it be a colleague or partner—strive to follow their example and support them. By doing so, you will not only improve yourself but also help the other person become more creative and productive.

Together, you will grow and contribute to a better society.
Conversely, if you attempt to undermine that person to elevate your own importance, you may gain temporary benefits, but your growth and mental health will suffer in the long run. Your progress will be stunted, minimal, or even non-existent.

More importantly, the valuable contributions of the other person, who could have been more beneficial to society than you, will be lost. Strive to excel through your own efforts and merit, rather than relying on others for your advancement. The worst scenario is when you try to eliminate another person professionally in order to gain prominence for yourself. Such actions are akin to, or even worse than, physical assault or murder. While physical assault and murder are criminal acts that lead to imprisonment, academic assault and elimination of a bright person would prevent the valuable services of that person from benefiting society. This is a crime against society, far more serious than that of a murderer who is imprisoned.
